The Transformation
Before Dream Firms VS. After Dream Firms
Her words. Her books. Her award.
The Specialist
The CPA a nonprofit board calls when the numbers have to be right.
Sandy has spent her entire 35-year career inside the nonprofit world. Her clients are small organizations that need a CPA’s expertise but cannot carry one on payroll: compliance, internal controls, and, in her words, “another layer of governmental requirements on top of that.” They stay. Her average client relationship runs seven years, and more than one in four has been with her for a decade or longer.
Deep expertise. Loyal clients. Now imagine adding a lead engine.
In Her Own Words
“Financially, We Were Struggling. The Leads Were Drying Up.”
Sandy sits down with Tyler S. Clark for a full Dream Firm Spotlight interview: the dead-end job, the referral well running dry, and the $7.3 million nonprofit that found her through her website.
Your niche is harder than most? So was hers. Let’s talk.
Behind The Breakthrough
The Full Story

Before Dream Firms
Sandy started her firm a quarter century ago for the most honest reason there is: “I realized I was in a dead-end job and that I needed to do something for myself and my family.” Audit firms sent her nonprofit clients who needed clean books, and for two decades that was enough. One client on Monday, another on Tuesday, another on Wednesday.
Then the well ran dry. “The bigger firms decided if Sandy can make money doing this, so can we.” She knew she needed to expand. She did not know how.
“Financially, we were struggling. The leads were drying up… I didn’t know where to go other than just to try to bring in more clients and have more billable hours, but I didn’t know how to do that.”
Sandra E. Ray, Dream Firm Spotlight interview
Every quote carried the same doubt: “Am I charging enough? Am I going to make money doing this?… Is it too high? There was a lot of uncertainty back then.” She found Dream Firms through a continuing-education webinar, started with the Practice Ignitor program, and moved up into Create Your Dream Firm. Her reason: “I knew that this was something that I needed to do.”
The Three Moves
- 1
She let 35 years of goodwill show up on Google
The review system went to work on clients who had trusted her for years. Weeks in: “I think I’m up to 17 five-star reviews… this is happening all in just a few weeks. It’s amazing.” - 2
She got out of the marketing seat
A virtual assistant, a posting calendar, a website built to make her look like the expert she is. “I knew nothing about social media… and I’m not even doing it myself anymore. I’ve got someone else who’s doing it and she’s doing a fantastic job.” The payoff arrived on its own: a $7.3 million nonprofit found her website, booked a call, and complimented the follow-up automations before they had ever spoken. - 3
She traded busy for focused
Weekly progress reviews and hot seats replaced guesswork with priorities. “I don’t think I’m working any more hours. I’m just not just being busy. I’m actually focused. I have my priorities.”
The Result
A year in, on camera: “My January and February, 2022 revenue is twice my 2021 revenue.” Nonprofits move slowly, boards meet monthly, and she still doubled. Then she kept going. The award verification reads “Added $138,694.62 in 1 year”: from $137,578.78 to $276,273.40, twelve months against the twelve before. Her firm doubled.
“We’re taking a vacation the first week of April. We would have never done that before. Never.”

The Why Behind The Win
What Made the Difference
The Referral Well Always Runs Dry
Twenty years of referrals ended the day the referrers decided to keep the work. A lead source you own, your website, your reviews, your content, cannot be taken back.
Expert Status, Made Visible
Thirty-five years in nonprofits is rare. Until it was online, nobody knew. Once it was, a $7.3 million organization found her, booked a call, and was impressed before they ever spoke.
Focused Beats Busy
Same hours, different outcome. Weekly reviews turned “chasing the billable dollars” into priorities, and priorities into a firm that doubled while she took her first real vacation.
Your expertise is already rare. Let’s make it findable.
The Program Behind The Result
